Phoenix Theatre Cultural Centre Equity Statement

The Phoenix Theatre Cultural Centre is committed to inclusion, diversity, equity, and accessibility. We believe engagement with the Phoenix should be undeterred by socio-economic status, race, ethnicity, gender identity, sexual orientation, or physical challenges. We know the Phoenix will be robust and successful when it follows these principles:

Our People: We are committed to maintaining an equitable, fair, and inclusive work environment for all employees, actors, artists, playwrights, technicians, and contractors to authentically celebrate and reflect their diversity and our society.

Our Art: We aim to evoke positive changes in expanding the American landscape of storytelling, as embodied in professional live theatre and art. We are proud to nurture and present diverse voices from all communities and are resolved to include people who have been historically underrepresented both on and off the stage.

Our Audiences: Because the arts should be a place that holds a mirror up to the world, we strive to provide access to all communities with their varied histories, voices, and life experiences. We hope to inspire and cultivate an audience from diverse populations who sees themselves as belonging, learning, and participating in our art.

It always has been and continues to be the Phoenix Theatre Indianapolis’ policy that employees, contractors and volunteers should be able to enjoy a work environment free from all forms of unlawful employment discrimination. All decisions regarding recruiting, hiring, promotion, volunteers, assignment, training, termination, and other terms and conditions of employment will be made without unlawful discrimination on the basis of race, color, national origin, ancestry, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity or expression, religion, age, pregnancy, disability, work-related injury, covered veteran status, political ideology, genetic information, marital status, or any other factor that the law protects from employment discrimination. Individuals will be selected for promotion based on skill and ability. Where skill and ability are equal, then length of continuous employment will be the determining factor. Additionally, the Phoenix prohibits unlawful harassment of its volunteers, employees, applicants, or independent contractors in any form. Complaints of unlawful employment discrimination or harassment should be reported to the Managing Director. In cases where investigation confirms the allegations, appropriate corrective action will be taken, regardless of whether the inappropriate conduct rises to the level of any violation of law. No employee or volunteer will suffer retaliation for reporting, in good faith, any violation of the Phoenix Theatre Indianapolis policy or unlawful discrimination, harassment, or retaliation.
